Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov met with the Minister-President of the Wallonia region of the Kingdom of Belgium, Willy Borsus on 11 December 2018.
The Minister-President particularly welcomed the radical changes and reforms carried out in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at democratizing the state and society, liberalizing the economy and creating favorable conditions for foreign investors.
Separate attention was paid to the spheres of culture and education, in particular expansion of French language training, including in the Center of Francophony established in Tashkent, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan said.
He noted that in March 2017, with the assistance of the Walloon Export Agency, a successful visit of representatives of 20 enterprises of the region was organized to Uzbekistan, and said that the Walloon government plans to organize a similar trip in the future.
Walloon is ready to support business initiatives in the region to establish practical cooperation with Uzbekistan.
In this regard, Willy Borsus welcomed the ongoing negotiations on implementation of the LifeBadge outpatient medical card system and creation in Uzbekistan of the Cancer Treatment Center by proton therapy based on the technologies of the Belgian company IBA.
Regarding the development of the tourism sector in Uzbekistan, the Minister-President highly appreciated the measures taken by the Government to introduce a visa-free regime for European citizens, which could significantly increase the tourist flow, including from Belgium.
On the same day, a meeting was held with Jean Winand, First Vice-Rector of the University of Liege.
Jean Wynand praised the efforts of Uzbekistan to establish branches of foreign higher educational institutions, including the United States, Italy, Russia, South Korea, France and others. At the same time, he noted that the University of Liège has a rich history that began in 1817, covering almost all areas of higher education, ranging from political science, philosophy and medicine, to agriculture and veterinary medicine. And in all directions mutually acceptable cooperation with Uzbekistan can be established.
Today, about 20 thousand students, 2 thousand doctoral students and 2,800 teachers and scientists are employed at 10 faculties of the university.
In this context, Jean Wynand welcomed the negotiations with the khokimiyat of Namangan Region initiated by the honorary vice-rector of the University of Liege University P.Leroy to establish a modern animal husbandry in this region.
The dean of the Faculty of Medicine, V. D’Orio, who participated in the conversation, in turn, said that the university clinic is the only academic medical institution in Wallonia and the largest in Belgium.
He expressed the interest of his faculty to establish cooperation with Uzbek partners in the field of training in the neurosurgical field, in particular noting that the university occupies one of the leading positions in the world in the study of brain coma. The university is ready to share its experience with the Center for Neurology established in Uzbekistan, including through the exchange of doctoral students and practitioners.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on the use of the LifeBadge ambulatory medical record (AMC) at the University Hospital of Liege, which has been used successfully for many years in Wallonia. The system allows you to have direct access to the medical records of patients seeking treatment, facilitating the work of doctors in establishing the diagnosis and determining treatment.
