Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 6 to 8 September 2018, the Nukus branch of the Tashkent State Agrarian University will host an interactive-dialogue seminar "Establishment of a mechanism to raise awareness and initiate the implementation of resource and water-saving practices, including green technologies, by local communities in an arid climate", which will be held by specialists of the Foundation for Development of Socially Significant Initiatives (Kazakhstan).
The objective of the seminar is to extensively involve representatives of local communities in the use of adaptation approaches that take into account local climate conditions, to promote resource and water-saving principles, as well as green technologies, and to train stakeholders in the preparation of project proposals for implementation of these technologies. The place was chosen not by chance, because it is the students of the agrarian profile that are the best conductors of innovative ideas to improve the efficiency of adaptation approaches. The development of an environmental education system is an important component of the very process of adapting to climate change and improving the climate resilience of communities. This is the focus of the first presentation that will open the seminar and introduce the options of the environmental education system, which can be tested on the basis of both urban and rural schools. In doing so, it is suggested that observations and results be discussed in a dialogue format, when all participants of the educational process can share their views, offer their teaching methods, and present new ideas.
"Interaction between administrative structures, NGOs and businesses in the promotion of resource-saving, water-saving and green technologies" is the theme of the next session, during which the representatives of the mission will conduct a practical training on developing a project proposal, as well as on mapping landscape priorities in the development of a sustainable community in the context of climate change.
The final day of the seminar will be a practical training on developing a project application for the implementation of measures to ensure the climate and environmental sustainability of communities. During the master class, the participants will have an opportunity to develop and present their own project proposals, to conduct a SWOT analysis to explore strengths and weaknesses of their developments and to overcome obstacles for the dissemination of innovative ideas of the project in the community. Special focus will be on working with the media.
As a result of the interactive-dialogue workshop, the participants are expected not only increase their knowledge in applying resource and water-saving practices, as well as green technologies, but also be able to develop projects by using these technologies to enhance the resilience of communities located in areas with adverse climatic conditions.
The seminar is organized within the framework of the project "Developing climate resilience of farming communities in the drought prone parts of Uzbekistan" implemented jointly by the United Nations Development Programme and the Centre of Hydrometeorological Service at the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the financial assistance of the Adaptation Fund under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
