President of Uzbekistan pardons 261 prisoners

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 30 August, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On pardoning a group of people, serving a sentence of imprisonment, who sincerely repented of their actions and firmly embarked on the path of correction”.
With his decree, the Uzbek leader pardoned 261 citizens, serving a sentence of imprisonment, sincerely repented of the deed and firmly embarked on the path of correction.
According to the decree, 215 persons will be released from penal institutions. Also, the sentences in the form of deprivation of liberty, appointed in respect of 46 persons, are reduced.
The head of Uzbekistan has pardoned five persons aged over 60 years. Out of the total number of pardoned, 135 people are persons convicted for participation in the activities of banned organizations.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev entrusted responsible ministries and departments to assist the pardoned persons in social adaptation, to engage in useful work, to choose a healthy lifestyle and to occupy a worthy place in society.
