New opportunities open in Uzbek-Tajik relations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon started negotiations in a narrow format after the official welcoming ceremony.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, greeting Emomali Rahmon on Uzbek soil, noted the increased level of political trust between our states, thanks to which in a short time the issues that remained relevant for many years were resolved.
“We view your visit as an important political event in the new history of Uzbek-Tajik relations. It shows the mutual firm intention to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation on the basis of the principles of friendship, good-neighborliness and consideration of each other’s interests. Today, we have great opportunities to fully realize the trade and economic and transport-communication potential of our countries, to intensify cultural and humanitarian exchanges. We want this visit to become truly historic, and our agreements served our people for many years,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
President Emomali Rahmon expressed gratitude to Uzbekistan for invitation and sincere reception, noted that this meeting is an opportunity to discuss the current state and prospects for cooperation.
“I remember with warmth your state visit to Tajikistan in March of this year. The visit restored relations between our countries, gave a powerful impetus to development of cooperation in various fields. Thanks to your effective foreign policy, the authority of Uzbekistan in the international community is growing ever more. In your country, people’s lives are also undergoing great changes. I think my state visit is very important for our peoples,” Rahmon said.
Thanks to the political will and efforts of the heads of state, bilateral relations have strengthened. Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon met in international forums, often contacted by phone, consistently develop bilateral ties.
On the fronts, issues of expanding cooperation in the political, trade-economic, investment, energy, agriculture, water, tourism and other spheres were discussed.
An agreement was reached on using additional opportunities for this, strengthening the ties between regions, large enterprises and entrepreneurs, and intensifying cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
The heads of state also exchanged views on topical issues of the international and regional agenda.
