Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Interdepartmental mobile groups on counteracting illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs have been established in Uzbekistan.
Mobile groups are organized from the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service and the State Customs Committee.
They will operate in the border areas, covering motorways, railways, buses, railway stations and border checkpoints.
It should be noted that the creation of mobile groups is envisaged by the "road map" for the development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The regional office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime provided 30 vehicles and a number of special equipment items for the organization of the activities of the Interagency mobile groups. The government of Japan provided financial resources for the purchase of equipment.
Equipped with the necessary technical means, Interdepartmental mobile teams will implement joint practice and operational measures against illegal drug trafficking throughout Uzbekistan.
Mobile groups will be based in Tashkent, Ferghana, Termez, Samarkand and Nukus. The activities of the groups will be coordinated from Tashkent.
