Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover hits US$7.9bn in 1Q

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan made up US$7.9 billion in January-March 2018. The volume of exports reached US$4.1 billion and imports – US$3.8 billion in the reporting period.
The balance of foreign trade was US$249.4 million. Export of energy resources and oil products increased by 91.4% as compared to the same period of the previous year due to exports of natural gas by 2.3 times, machinery and equipment by 35.4%, of which boilers, equipment and mechanical devices by 24.6%, transformers and batteries by 68.6%, monitors and projectors by 3.3 times.
The volume of exports of food products increased by 49.9% due to an increase in exports of wheat by 21.6% and fruit and vegetable products by 51.7%.
In the import structure the main share belongs to machinery and equipment – 37.5% and chemical products and articles thereof – 14.4%.
The share of services in total exports was 27.1% in January-March 2018, of which 9.1% - transportation services and 16.3% - travel services.
In January-March 2018, the balance of foreign trade was US$249.4 million, including minus US$231.3 million with CIS countries and US$480.7 million with other countries.
Among the CIS countries, the main foreign trade partners of Uzbekistan are Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Tajikistan and Tajikistan (their share in the foreign trade turnover was 30.3%), among other countries - China, Turkey, the Republic of Korea, Afghanistan, Germany, Latvia, Iran, France (33.4%).
Exports of fruit and vegetable products made up US$110.8 million, or increased compared to the same period of the last year by 51.7%.
Of the total volume of fruit and vegetable products the share of fruit and berries is 22.4% (increased by 27.1% as compared to the same period of the last year), vegetables – 57.2% (69.8%), grapes – 15.7% (by 16.3%). In the export of fruits and vegetables the main foreign trade partners are Kazakhstan (37.4% of the total), Afghanistan (13.1%), Russia (11.8%), Turkey (5.9%), Vietnam (4.9%), China (3.8%), Kyrgyzstan (2.6%), Iran (2.4%), India (2.2%).
The export volume of fruit and vegetables reached 182,800 tonnes, or increased by 84.9% compared to the same period of the last year. Of the total volume of fruit and vegetable products, the volume of fruits and berries was 23,100 tonnes (increased by 15.8% compared to the same period of the last year), vegetables – 133,900 tonnes (2.3 times), grapes – 19,500 tonnes (decreased by 2.7%), peanuts – 6,200 tonnes (4.8 times) and melons and watermelons fresh – 10.9 tonnes (6.4 times).
In January-March 2018, the share of export of textile products in total exports was 7.8%. The volume of export of textile products was US$316.9 million, or increased by 14.7% compared to the same period of the last year.
