Agreement on mutual assistance in customs matters between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan comes into force

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23 March 2018, the Agreement between the Government of Uzbekistan and the Government of Afghanistan on mutual assistance in customs matters came into force, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
The document was signed on 5 December 2017 in Tashkent during the official visit of the President of Afghanistan, Muhammad Ashraf Ghani, to Uzbekistan.
In accordance with the provisions of the Agreement, the parties take all necessary measures to simplify customs clearance, recognize customs documents, and use electronic means of information exchange to increase the efficiency of cooperation between customs departments of the two countries.
The document envisages creation of an effective mechanism for interaction between the parties in preventing and combating smuggling, as well as illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.
