Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 to 28 February, a delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Chairman of the Supreme Court K.Kamilov visited the French Republic for a fact-finding visit, Jahon news agency reported.
During the visit, meetings and negotiations took place at the Ministry of Justice, the State Council of France, the Court of Cassation, the Commercial Court of Paris, the International Arbitration Court, the Administrative Court of Appeal, and the National School of Magistracy of Bordeaux and other institutions and departments.
At the talks, the sides exchanged views on reforms, carried out in the judicial and legal spheres of the two countries, as well as discussed improvement of Uzbekistan’s legislation, implementation of the country’s undertaken international obligations in the field of human rights protection.
Agreements were reached on enhancing cooperation in the spirit of traditional successful interaction in these and other similar areas of life of society, taking into account existing and future opportunities.
The French partners expressed interest in studying the Uzbek experience in the framework of the implementation of the second direction of the Strategy for Development of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, as well as providing assistance in this direction.
During the meeting at the State Council of France, the vice-chairman of this body, Jean Marc Sauve, praised the progressive reforms in Uzbekistan to ensure the rule of law. He noted the fact that in a record short time, our country has made significant progress in the field of judicial protection of human rights, to which the European countries have been going for centuries.
At the talks in the Supreme Council of the Magistracy of France, the functions and tasks of this structure and the Supreme Judicial Council of Uzbekistan were similar. At the same time, the European side emphasized that the formation of such an authority in Uzbekistan further demonstrated to all that Tashkent fulfills its international obligations and is committed to the implementation of international advanced standards.
Discussion of mechanisms for judicial protection of the rights of small and medium-sized businesses took place during a meeting with the Chairman of the Commercial Court of Paris, D. Fami. Here, much attention was paid to the introduction of alternative methods of dispute resolution, including pre-trial ones. The European representatives gave a high assessment of the Strategy of Action in five priority areas, according to which the institution of mediation is planned to be introduced in Uzbekistan, which will allow more effective application of international standards and norms in national legislation, and will increase the prestige of the republic on the world stage.
Thus, it can be stated that the fact-finding visit of the Uzbek delegation to France was successful and fruitful. As a result of the negotiations, agreements were reached on the drafting of relevant agreements and road maps for the development of cooperation between the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan and the judiciary of the French Republic.
