Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 11 December 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov took part in the meeting of the foreign ministers of Central Asia and Afghanistan.
The meeting was organized in Ashgabat on the initiative of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia (UNRCCA) and with the support of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
The participants of the meeting exchanged views on topical issues of regional policy and security, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
In his speech, the head of the Uzbek delegation informed about the fruitful results of the official visit of President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and high-level talks on 4-6 December at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
As it was emphasized, Uzbekistan traditionally conducts friendly policy towards Afghanistan, based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and consideration of each other’s interests, supporting the government elected by the Afghan people.
The meeting supported the initiative to create a new consultative format “Central Asian countries – Afghanistan” (C5 + 1), which is intended to be an effective platform for discussing the entire range of regional issues, as well as developing joint measures for peace and sustainable development with the support of the United Nations
The meeting was also attended by the UN Secretary-General’s special representative, head of the UNRCCA Natalia Gherman.
