Uzbekistan and US intend to develop cooperation in field of agriculture

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan visited the United States from 23 October to 1 November 2017, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
The delegation of Uzbekistan held talks at the US Agriculture Department. The sides discussed ways to further develop bilateral cooperation, primarily in the field of innovative and applied agricultural science.
The parties also considered introduction of intensive US resource-saving technologies in the agricultural sector, establishing cooperation in the field of breeding new crops and protecting plants and animals from dangerous diseases.
The delegation of Uzbekistan also visited the universities of Michigan and Ohio. The delegation discussed the prospects for inter-university cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States in the field of agriculture.
The Uzbek side got acquainted with the activities of universities, including information and consultation centers, training programs, research opportunities and a scientific base.
As a result of the talks, memorandums of understanding were signed between the University of Michigan and Tashkent State Agrarian University, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Mechanization of Agriculture, Andijan and Samarkand agricultural institutes.
Within the framework of these documents, the universities intend to develop cooperation on issues of joint research and exchange experience between faculty. Specialists from Uzbekistan will have an opportunity to upgrade their qualifications at the University of Michigan.
During the visit, the representatives of Uzbekistan held a meeting in the organization American Councils for International Education (ACIE). The American side noted interest in strengthening cooperation with Uzbekistan. Representatives of ACIE expressed their readiness to assist in expanding educational ties between the two countries, including the direction of agriculture.
