Parliamentary Commission on ensuring labor rights of citizens created

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 September, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on establishment of the Parliamentary Commission on ensuring guaranteed labor rights of citizens.
This initiative of the Senate is directed at further strengthening the guarantees of labor rights of citizens in Uzbekistan.
Zhokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the Kengash (Councils) of People’s Deputies of the regions and the city of Tashkent are recommended to form similar territorial commissions. Specific directions of their activity are determined in the resolution.
The parliamentary commission will regularly submit reports on activities of the state bodies and other organization in central and local levels on execution of legislation and international treaties on ensuring guaranteed labour rights of citizens, as well as on prevention and non-admission of forced labor to the Senate.
Territorial commissions will regularly submit relevant information to the Zhokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the regional and Tashkent city Kengashes of People’s Deputies for consideration.
According to the resolution, annual information on measures, taken by the Republic of Uzbekistan to ensure the guaranteed labor rights of citizens in accordance with legislation and international labor standards, will be disseminated as official information of the UN General Assembly.
Consular institutions of Uzbekistan in foreign states will also disseminate information about efforts of Uzbekistan directed ensuring labour rights of citizens among world community and international organizations.
The government will take comprehensive measures to further introduce the market mechanisms in the agricultural sphere, achievements of modern science and technology, increase the level of mechanization of agriculture, development of new varieties of cotton, which will allow widespread use of mechanized harvesting, as well as development of various methods of economic incentives for seasonal workers involved, etc.
Special attention is paid to participation of non-state non-profit organizations and other civil society institutions in implementation of public control over unconditional implementation of labor, organization of the broad awareness-raising campaign on these issues among the population.
Senate recommended to the Parliamentary Commission for the Management of the Public Fund for the Support of Non-Governmental Non-Profit Organizations and Other Civil Society Institutions under the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan to provide grants and social orders to NGOs to implement targeted programs for creation of decent working conditions, strengthening of guarantees of labor rights of citizens.
Senators also called on international organizations and financial institutions to be objectivity when they are assessing measures, which were taken in Uzbekistan to prevent forced labor.
