Uzbek Agriculture Ministry, FAO start to implement joint project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched a new project “Support to improvement of the national seed, plant variety protection and phytosanitary legislation”.
The event dedicated to launch of the joint project was held in Tashkent, which was attended by MPs, officials of ministries, department and agencies, FAO employees, etc.
The main objective of the two-year project is to improve livelihoods of rural population, improve food security and the expansion of market opportunities as a result of the strengthening of the seed sector and phyto-sanitary system in accordance with generally accepted international rules and standards.
Implementation of the project will contribute to the sustainable intensification of crop production, which will lead to growth of productivity, production of value-added products, as well as the strengthen institutional capacity and development of international trade.
