Uzbekistan and FAO launch new project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched a new project “Demonstration of diversification and sustainable crop production intensification”.
On 14 February 2017, Tashkent hosted a seminar dedicated to launch of new joint project, which was attended by the MPs of Legislative Chamber, heads and officials of ministries, departments, agencies, FAO, etc.
The project is aimed at rendering assistance to improve competitiveness of farmers via introduction of sustainable methods of crop production, diversification of cropping systems, etc.
The technical assistance, provided within the project, will contribute to the development of models for the intensification and diversification of the cotton monoculture systems and wheat, which are important for agricultural productivity and, as a consequence, for the sustainable improvement of rural livelihoods.
The project also includes component on organizing training directed at strengthening national capacity, both in terms of the implementation of sustainable agricultural systems, and formation of the basis for the development of appropriate approaches in this area.
