Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to resume automobile communication via highway M-39

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan adopted a decision to resume automobile communication via highway M-39, which will allow to decrease travel time between Tashkent and Samarkand.
Ambassador-at-large of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Ilhomjon Nematov held negotiations at the administration of Southern-Kazakhstan region (Kazakhstan) on 6 January 2017.
Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan Erik Utembaev, Vice Minister on investments and development of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar and akim (governor) of Southern Kazakhstan region Janseit Tuymebaev attended the emeeting.
During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of commissioning of renovated automobile road M-39 (887.8-911.9 km), which passes via the territory of Maktaral district, as well as construction of check-point along the road.
It is expected that reconstruction of automobile road will be completed and commissioned into exploitation in February 2017.
The highway M-39 was closed in 2006. It created difficulties for population movement, including to travel between Tashkent and Samarkand.
After launch of the road, citizens of Tashkent can travel to Samarkand, bypassing road via Jizzakh. The travel distance between Tashkent and Samarkand will decrease from 89 to 24.5 km.
Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan Erik Utembaev said that the travel distance will decrease up to 65 km. Launch of the road will help to strengthen relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, as well as develop trade and tourism.
Envoy also expressed hope that relations between Tashkent and Southern-Kazakhstan region will develop further.
Erik Utembaev underlined that special check point will be conducted at border zone, which will control tax-free trade turnover.
After negotiations, representatives of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan signed the protocol. The sides expressed assurance that signing of the protocol will help o strengthen international economic relations and improve trade turnover.
