Enterprises of Uzbekistan increase exports of fruits, vegetables by 38.3%

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Enterprises of Uzbekistan increased exports of fruits and vegetables by 38.3% - to 818,500 tonnes in 2016, UzAgroExport said.
According to the company, the export of vegetables rose by 29.6% to 242,100 tonnes in 2016, fruits – by 28% to 229,600 tonnes and melons – by 0.8% to 6,800 tonnes.
The volume of export of grapes made up 96,200 tonnes (+11.7%), legumes – 120,200 tonnes (+14.7%) and dried products – 124,500 tonnes (+15.2%).
Uzbekistan exported 65 types of fruits and vegetables in 2016. The company noted that the mail volume of exports in monetary terms fell to fresh cherry (14.4%), dried grapes (12.8%), fresh apricots (7.63%), fresh grapes (7.57%), mung (6.91%), fresh tomatoes (6.86%), beans (6.51%), fresh herbs (5.65% ), fresh peaches (nectarine) (4.11%) and fresh persimmon (3.96%).
Uzbekistan exported fruits and vegetables to 43 counties of the world in 2016. Last year, Uzbekistan started to export products to nine new states.
Tinned capers were exported for the first time to Spain and Italy, walnuts to Lebanon, dried grapes to Vietnam, dried vegetables to Belgium, fresh grapes and melons to Switzerland, dried apricots to the Netherland, dried grapes to Israel and grapes and dried fruit to the Czech Republic.
Uzbekistan holds the 48th place in the list of the largest exporters in the total global exports volume.
Uzagroexport organized and held Extraordinary and the First International Fruit and Vegetable Fair in July and November respectively.
Over 300 representatives of the ministries and departments, organizations and companies in the field of trade, logistics and agriculture from 33 countries attended the First International Fruit and Vegetable Fair.
The First International Fruit and Vegetable Fair recorded export contacts for US$1.009 billion to supply 1,421 tonnes of products.
Uzbagroexport opened five trade houses in cooperation with wholesale companies in Russia and two houses in Kazakhstan.
The company said it shipped 4,200 tonnes of products for US$2.7 million to these trade houses.
Within the First International Fruit and Vegetable Fair, the agreement on creation of trade house in Novosibirsk was signed. The house will deliver fruits and vegetables to SIbir Federal Region, which includes 12 subjects of Russia with total population of over 19 million people.
The company is completing work on opening trade house in India, Germany, Poland, Latvia, UAE and Belarus. By the end of 2017, trade house in these states will be registered and start their operations by the end of 2017.
The company also works on launching joint trade houses in Kuwait, Oman, Japan and Korea, which will diversify supply market. Fresh cherries, melons, pomegranates, apricots, beans, walnuts, peanuts, dried fruit, and legumes are highly demanded in these markets.
Currently, the company is studying supply of legumes, including mung, to new markets. In the result, the contract on supply of mung to India was signed. In the fourth quarter of 2016, the Uzbek side supplied 1,717.8 tonnes for US$1.167 million to India.
Uzbek companies also are participating fruit and vegetable fairs and exhibitions. In September 2016, the Uzbek companies attended WorldFood Moscow – 2016 in September 2016. They signed agreements on supply of fruits and vegetables for US$114 million.
It is expected that Uzbekistan will export 1.27 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables in 2017. Currently, Uzagroexport has firm agreements, which will ensure full volume of export of products, envisaged to supply in 2017.
