Uzbekistan introduces punishment for financing terrorism

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan introduced a punishment for recruiting for terrorism organizations and financing of terrorism.
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On amendments and addenda to some legislative acts of Uzbekistan” on 25 April.
Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 30 March and Senate approved it on 31 March. The document came into force on 26 April.
The law introduces changes to the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. New sub-division “Financing of terrorism” was included to the article 155 (Terrorism).
In line with the article, providing any resources to train and commit terrorism, acts, aid to terrorism organizations will be punished with imprisonment from 10 to 15 years.
Responsibility for recruiting persons to undergo training for terrorism activities was also introduced to the Criminal Code. This violation envisages prison term from 8 to 10 years.
A person, who financed terrorism, is exempted from criminal liability, if he or she warn the authorities in timely manner or provide help to prevent the onset of serious consequences and implementation of terrorist objectives, the document says.
