Uzbekistan ratifies OIC charter

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On ratification of the charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (Dakar, 14 March 2008).
Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan adopted a law on 18 March 2016 and Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the document on 31 March 2016.
The OIC charter was adopted in Dakar, Senegal, on 14 March 2008. OIC was Organization of the Islamic Conference till 2011.
The ratification of this law will make it possible to intensify the process of attracting financial resources from Islamic financial institutions, in particular from the Islamic Development Bank.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was established in September of 1969 to ensure Islamic solidarity in social, economic and political spheres. The organization has 57 member states.
Uzbekistan became an OIC member in 1996. The country took over the presidency of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC in 2016.
