Tram lines in Tashkent to be dismantled

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent city administration is planning to dismantle all tram lines by August 2016, the Governor of Tashkent city Rakhmanbek Usmanov said.
The decision on dismantling tram lines was adopted in connection with inefficient work of tram transportation system.
Each day, trams in Tashkent transported over 20,000 passengers, buses – about 700,000 and underground – over 2 million.
According to Governor, overall it is planned to remove about 87.8 km of tram lines. In the first stage, over 15 km of tram lines were removed.
Rakhmanbek Usmanov underlined from April, each month some 13-15 km of lines will be dismantled in Tashkent. Roads, where tram lines were removed, will be expanded.
Tashkent city governor said that new bus routes will be launched to replace trams. About 80 trams will be sold.
