UzLiDeP faction discusses draft Customs Code

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Faction of UzLiDeP held a session on 3 November to discuss a draft Customs Code of Uzbekistan, which is prepared for second reading at the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
Representative of UzLiDeP faction, State Customs Committee, other interested ministries and departments attended the event.
It was noted that Uzbekistan carried out systematic work on further liberalization of economy, introduction of market principles and mechanisms of management, formation of favourable business environment, eliminating red tape.
In last three years, about 20 laws and several by-laws directed at improving status and protection of private property, further improving business environment and conditions for doing business were adopted in the country.
In the result, share of small and private businesses in the GDP of Uzbekistan rose from 31% in 2000 to 56% now. About 77% of people are employed by the sector.
New edition of Customs Code is a logical continuation of this wide-scale work. UzLiDeP members made proposals on further improving the Code during the discussions in line with the priorities of pre-election programme of the party.
The Customs Code envisages interests of the voters of the party, setting concrete and stable rules for doing business, simplifying customs registration and control, import and transportation of goods, etc.
The Code will help to develop business in Uzbekistan create wide opportunities for companies, engaged in foreign economic activity, protect economic borders of Uzbekistan, increase export potential and attraction of foreign investments.
The faction adopted decision on supporting new edition of the Customs Code during the second reading at the Legislative Chamber.
