Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 June, Ambassador of Great Britain to Uzbekistan George Edgar handed 1400 copies of an booklet providing information and help to those affected by domestic violence to the National Association of NGOs of Uzbekistan (NANGOUz).
This is one of many activities taking place around the world to commemorate the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict being held from 10-13 June in London.
The Uzbek version of the booklet was produced by the Embassy in partnership with the UNDP Office in Uzbekistan. The purpose of the publication was to provide contact details and useful information of organisations who are able to assist people affected by domestic violence.
With UNDP partners the Ambassador handed the publications to Ms Nasiba Miradylova, Deputy Chairman of NANGOUz, and wished them success in their activities. In his speech at the meeting he noted: “The Embassy has supported a number of projects designed to contribute to economic and political empowerment of women and to promote women’s rights in Uzbekistan. The recent example includes the Women in Business Week in Nukus held on 3-5 June contributing to the development of entrepreneurial skills amongst women in the region. I am happy that we have funded another useful project. We hope that the publications we are handing over today will improve the protection of people affected by domestic violence”.
