Uzbek President receives FAO Director-General

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Jose Graziano da Silva at the presidential residence Oqsaroy on 6 June 2014, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
Islam Karimov underlined that Uzbekistan considers FAO as a key international structure on developing policy and measures on ensuring food safety and agriculture development.
It was underlined that FAO play important role in formation of global and regional balances on main types of food and agriculture resources, attracting advanced methods of selection and land processing to developing nations, etc.
At the meeting, it was said that the visit of the FAO chief to Uzbekistan will help to further development of cooperation directed at developing agriculture potential of the country.
The sides also exchanged opinion food provision, development of agriculture, introduction of new drought-resistant food cultures and modern methods of land processing.
Jose Graziano da Silva expressed gratitude to the Uzbek President for warm reception and high level of organization of the international conference. He expressed assurance that the forum will be important platform for solving existing problems of humanity such as food safety and agriculture development. He expressed readiness of FAO to further development and expansion of relations with Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan became member of FAO in 2001. Since 2001, eight national and regional projects were implemented in Uzbekistan and currently five projects are underway.
