Uzbekistan prevents smuggling of currencies for 1.7bn soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Customs officers of Uzbekistan prevented 404 facts of illegal movement of hard currencies, equivalent for 1.7 billion soums in the past period of 2013, the press service of the State Customs Committee said.
The committee said that employees of the customs complex Gisht Kuprik in Tashkent region prevented several attempts to smuggle hard currencies. In particular, citizen of Tashkent city Sh. Ahmedhanova tried to smuggle US$7,995 under her clothes.
The customs officers revealed another attempt to smuggle US$1,700. Citizen of Georgia E.Meitov did not show the money in his declaration.
Citizen of Kashkadarya region A. Hurramov did not declare US$8,300, when he was passing customs post Navoi in Tashkent region.
R. Rashidov, citizen of Tashkent region, also tried to smuggle US$12,000 to neighboring state through the same customs post. He did not declare the sum.
Currently the investigations are underway on all these cases.
In line with the presidential decree, residents of Uzbekistan can take up to US$2,000 to abroad and non-residents – in the sum, equal to the sum, which they brought with themselves to Uzbekistan.
Residents of Uzbekistan can take hard currency over US$2,000 with permission of the authorized commercial banks or Central Bank of Uzbekistan.
