Uzbekistan may join CIS free zone on 31 May

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Council of the heads of the government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will consider an issue on accession of Uzbekistan to the free economic zone of the CIS at its session in Minsk, Belarus, on 31 May 2013, head of the Executive Committee of the CIS Sergei Lebedev said on Tuesday.
RIA Novosti reported that he noted that the key issue of the session will be accession of Uzbekistan to the CIS free economic zone.
Lebedev said that he hopes that the protocol will be signed and Uzbekistan became the ninth member of free trade zone.
The agreement on free trade zone in the CIS was signed in October 2011 and Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Tajikistan and Ukraine are signees of the document. Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan expressed wish to consider to accession to the agreement.
The agreement will create necessary conditions for full and effective operation of free trade zone in the CIS and create favourable conditions for further integration base on norms of the World Trade Organization.
