Uzbekistan cuts coal extraction by 13.8% in January-May 2010

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan decreased coal extraction by 13.8% year-on-year to 1.172 million tonnes in January-May 2010.
Open-cast coal mining fell by 12.4% year-on-year to 856,700 tonnes and shaft coal mining decreased by 1.7 times year-on-year to 38,300 tonnes.
Uzbekistan decreased brown coal extraction by 13.2% year-on-year to 1.158 million tonnes and coal output slipped by 1.9 times to 14,200 tonnes.
Uzbekistan extracted 3.654 million tonnes of coal in 2009, which is 1.4% more year-on-year.
Uzbekugol open joint-stock company produces 98% of coal in Uzbekistan. The company extracts coal at Angren brown coal mine in Tashkent region with reserves of 1.9 billion tonnes.
