Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Russian freestyle wrestler, two-time Russian champion Razambek Zhamalov decided to change his sports citizenship and compete for Uzbekistan national team.

The head of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), Mikhail Mamiashvili, noted that the Federation met the athlete wishes.

Mamiashvili noted that Razambek Zhamalov has been systematically plagued by very serious injuries over the past three years. According to him, he was practically unable to participate in the competition for leadership. In connection with this, he decided to change his sports citizenship.

Mamiashvili also called the possibility of Zhamalov performing at the 2024 Olympics in Paris a “technical issue.”

The 25-year-old athlete is the 2020 World Cup winner and has twice won the Russian Championships in the up to 74 kg weight category.
