WHO launches COVID-19 research data exchange program

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The World Health Organization (WHO), its partners, as well as 35 countries of the world, have launched a program that will allow the exchange of scientific data from a study of a new coronavirus. This was announced by WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus.

This initiative complemented another international cooperation program, the Global Partnership to Accelerate the Development, Production and Implementation of Safe and Effective Technologies for the Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Coronavirus Infection. It was launched back in April.

“In its efforts to combat the pandemic, prevent the spread of infection and save lives, WHO relies on science,” Tedros Ghebreyesus emphasized. - New data is appearing at an impressive rate. Almost every day we receive news about work on vaccines, as well as diagnostic and treatment methods. ”

The program will allow unimpeded dissemination of new data on the virus DNA and the results of clinical trials. It will also simplify the process of obtaining a license for the production of vaccines and drugs and help to establish their local production in a short time.

Participation in C-TAP - the so-called new program - voluntary. This model was once used to expand access to treatment for HIV and hepatitis C.

WHO recognizes patents as an important factor in the development of science. However, today the priority is to stop the pandemic, the head of WHO recalled, calling for solidarity for the benefit of all the inhabitants of the planet.
