Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Careless intake of antibiotics and antiviral drugs amid the coronavirus pandemic could result in another, much worse pandemic. This was stated by the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Russia Melita Vuinovich, TASS reports.

“A very important issue is antimicrobial drugs, antibiotics. If we do not carefully use antibiotics now - they need to be taken only as prescribed by a doctor, and all doctors should carefully look at the recommendations, whether they are needed or not needed - then after the coronavirus we may face a much worse pandemic. And this is a pandemic of microorganisms resistant to antibiotics and antiviral drugs,” she said.

According to Melita Vujnovich, in this case, people will have nothing to treat for infectious diseases, since antibiotics will be ineffective. “It is very important to understand that the coronavirus has given an impetus to reconsider the views on infectious diseases from both doctors and society,” she concluded.
