What is the role of enterprises with foreign investments in the economy of Uzbekistan?

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts from the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IPMI) analyzed the role of enterprises with foreign investment in the country’s economy.

The study showed that the importance of enterprises with foreign investment in the country’s economy is increasing.

In 2017-2021, the number of enterprises with foreign investments increased by 2.7 times and, as of 1 January 2022, amounted to over 13.2 thousand units.

Representatives of more than 50 countries of the world have invested in our economy. Most of the investment inflows come from China, Russia, Turkey, Germany and South Korea.

Most of the enterprises with foreign investments operate in industry (30.6%) and services (28.5%).

Enterprises with foreign investment employ about 6% of the total number of officially employed in the economy, but they account for 15% of production and 24% of investment in the economy.

The number of enterprises of this type is 2.5% of the total number of operating enterprises, but in 2021 they accounted for 19.8% of foreign trade turnover, including 19.7% of exports and 25% of imports.

The analysis shows that enterprises with foreign investments are the most active and productive category of economic entities.

The Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 includes the goal of attracting US$70 billion to the economy over the next 5 years of foreign investment loans and bring the volume of exports of products to US$30 billion by 2026.

To achieve these goals, it is important to increase the number of enterprises with foreign investment and expand the activity of their export activities.
