The week has been launched at the Center for national art of Uzbekistan with the exhibition of carpets of Native American artist Barbara Ornelas of the Navajo tribe and Hadicha Rakhimberdieva from Baisun (Uzbekistan). Kenneth Duncan of the Apache tribe performed Native American music at the opening ceremony.
Within her visit to Uzbekistan, Barbara Ornelas will organize several master classes in Tashkent and Baisun. She will also meet Uzbek youth at the National Library of Uzbekistan.
The US Ambassador to Uzbekistan George Kroll participated at the opening ceremony. He said the exhibition is dedicated to culture and history of Native Americans. He said that when the Europeans arrived in the American continent, where various nations with their own culture, traditions, and religions already lived for several centuries.
Kenneth Duncan of the Apache tribe (Arizona) said that he usually travels with his family and they perform music together. He said that he dedicated his performance to his family, who stayed in Arizona. He said that music is saving people in the world of stresses and problems.
Kenneth Duncan directs internationally-renowned Yellow Bird Productions, which specializes in presentations that celebrate the spirit of American Indian history and culture. Duncan has performed in Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Lebanon, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Kenneth Duncan of the Apache tribe will perform Native American music at the Sharq Taronalari music festival in Samarkand.
During his performance, Kenneth Duncan presented several national compositions at the national instrument. Two people from the audience helped him.
After the concert, opening ceremony of the carpets exhibition of Barbara Ornelas and Hadicha Rakhimberdieva opened. The exhibition presented carpets of the various sizes with their own history.
Barbara Ornelas is a fifth generation weaver. She was raised in Two Grey Hills Trading Post in New Mexico. She is a professional weaver and well-known for weaving Two Grey Hills tapestries with high weft counts. Ornelas actively participates in various fairs and festivals which present Native American culture across the United States.
