The website of the Welfare Improvement Strategy for 2008-2010 (WIS) has been launched and it provides information the strategy and relevant materials, press release of UNDP project Support to Uzbekistan’s Welfare Improvement Strategy said on 21 November.

The Presidium of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan endorsed the Welfare Improvement Strategy for 2008-2010 on 27 August 2007.

"The WIS is expected to promote the coordinated implementation of national and sector development programs and plans aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth and enhancing the living standards of the population," the press release said.

The release said the website is available in English and Russian languages at www.wis.uz. The visitors may get acquainted with the text of the strategy and the database of relevant materials; the process of its formulation, implementation and monitoring; main news and events, being realized within the WIS process; database of useful links.

The press release said the Uzbek version of the website will be launched in early December 2007. It added that an interactive forum will be also launched to create platform for discussions and consultations on WIS implementation and wider development agenda for Uzbekistan.

The website of UNDP Country Office in Uzbekistan said that the objective of the project Support to Uzbekistan’s Welfare Improvement Strategy is to increase the Government’s capacity to formulate and implement comprehensive development strategies for poverty reduction and to support the consultation process with civil society and other key stakeholders.
