WAVES declaration signed in Mumbai to support creative industries and cultural

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During the World Audiovisual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2025) held in Mumbai, participating countries signed the WAVES Declaration — a major outcome of the Global Media Dialogue.

The declaration emphasizes the importance of fostering creativity and cultural understanding, particularly in the context of rapid advancements in artificial intelligence. A central theme of the discussions was how to develop creative industries by blending tradition with modern technologies.

The WAVES Declaration outlines key areas for promoting creativity, including support for the film industry, which continues to play a vital role in cultural exchange and bringing people together. Participating nations also recognized the importance of responsible journalism, which will be encouraged through collaborative initiatives on the WAVES platform.

India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, highlighted the need to preserve traditions and heritage while leveraging technology to raise awareness of cultural values. He also stressed the importance of preparing youth for creative collaboration by equipping them with the necessary skills.

India’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, opened the dialogue by stating that culture inspires creativity, and modern technology is transforming how stories are told. He emphasized the importance of local content creation and collaboration to bridge the digital divide.

The summit also featured discussions on the “Create in India” competitions, which have identified more than 700 leading creators from around the world. Future competitions are planned to be held in 25 global languages, allowing participants’ work to be showcased on the WAVES platform.

The Global Media Dialogue concluded with the establishment of a platform for addressing key media sector challenges, placing special focus on cultural cooperation and the use of technology for sustainable development.
