Washington cuts foreign aid: Projects in Uzbekistan, Moldova, and other countries canceled
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has decided to cancel foreign financial assistance totaling US$215 million, according to the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The agency stated that Rubio is continuing a comprehensive review of foreign aid programs, and as part of this process, 139 grants deemed unfeasible have been annulled, amounting to a total of US$215 million.
Uzbekistan is among the countries affected by this decision — a US$2.5 million grant intended to support civic engagement has been canceled.
Funding has also been suspended for several projects in Belarus, Bulgaria, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Lebanon, Mauritania, Moldova, and Tunisia.
