Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 5 January 2020, re-voting for elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes of People’s Deputies is held in 25 constituencies in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
At a press conference held at the CEC’s International Press Center, CEC Chair Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov made a statement saying that 5 million voters are expected to participate in the second ballot.
Of the 50 candidates participating in the re-election, 15 are representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, 11 are the Democratic Party Milliy Tiklanish, 10 are the Social Democratic Party Adolat, 9 are the People’s Democratic Party and 5 are the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan.
In accordance with the election code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, if more than two candidates are nominated for elections to the Legislative Chamber, and none of them gets enough votes to vote, then the two candidates who get the most votes will be held repeat voting. The candidate with the most votes wins the second ballot.
Repeated voting is held in the constituencies of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Andijan, Jizzakh, Namangan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, Tashkent, Ferghana, Khorezm, Kashkadarya regions and the city of Tashkent.
