Volume of non-performing loans in Uzbekistan’s banks reaches 20.82 trillion soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 August 2024, the volume of non-performing loans (NPLs) in Uzbekistan’s commercial banks amounted to 20.82 trillion soums, according to data from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

The total credit portfolio of the country’s banks reached 500.64 trillion soums, with non-performing loans making up 4.2% of the total.

State-owned banks continue to dominate in terms of credit portfolios, with a total volume of 348.29 trillion soums. Of this, non-performing loans amount to 15.25 trillion soums, representing 4.4% of the total credit portfolio of state-owned banks, a figure higher than the sector average.

The credit portfolio of non-state banks totals 152.35 trillion soums, with non-performing loans at 5.57 trillion soums, making up 3.7% of the total.

Among state-owned banks, National Bank of Uzbekistan has the highest volume of non-performing loans. Its credit portfolio amounts to 103.06 trillion soums, with 3.47 trillion soums classified as non-performing, or 3.4% of the total.

The Business Development Bank ranks second in terms of NPL volume. Its non-performing loans total 2.48 trillion soums, representing 11.5% of its credit portfolio, which stands at 21.6 trillion soums.

Uzpromstroybank ranks third, with non-performing loans totaling 2.21 trillion soums, or 3.7% of its 60.31 trillion soums credit portfolio.

Among non-state banks, Ipoteka Bank has the highest volume of non-performing loans. Its NPLs amount to 3.34 trillion soums, or 9.4% of its credit portfolio of 35.68 trillion soums.

Kapitalbank and Hamkorbank are second and third in terms of NPL volume among non-state banks. Kapitalbank has 728 billion soums in non-performing loans (2.5% of its credit portfolio), while Hamkorbank has 230 billion soums (1.3% of its credit portfolio).

In terms of the highest percentage of non-performing loans within a credit portfolio, Madad Invest Bank leads with 20.9%, followed by Garant Bank (14.3%) and the Business Development Bank (11.5%).
