Visa informed banks about expired card transaction processing mechanism

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Visa has provided banks and service providers with guidance on expired Visa cards during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company took this step in order to ensure the possibility of uninterrupted payment with Visa for all Visa card holders in Uzbekistan.

During the pandemic period, Visa recommends that issuing banks not to refuse to conduct operations on the basis of the expired card validity period and to make sure that the bank’s processing side has the correct settings to allow transactions with such cards.

If the host of the issuing bank is available, the decision to authorize the transaction is made based on information about available funds and account status. In addition, if the host of the issuing bank is unavailable, Visa, at the request of the issuing bank, may make changes to the settings on the payment system side to disable checking the card expiration date.

Expired Visa cardholders must contact the bank that issued the card in order to verify the possibility of conducting transactions on their card.

“We understand that in this situation, banks in Uzbekistan may experience difficulties associated with the timely reissue and delivery of cards to their customers. We remind our partner banks of the procedure for authorizing transactions with expired Visa cards. We can and will support expired card transactions, and we recommend that banks change their settings for this. This step will help reduce the burden on banks regarding re-issuance and delivery of cards, and consumers - continue to pay with Visa - safely and conveniently. We are currently working with issuing banks in Uzbekistan and are ready to provide any advice to our partners on this issue,” said Aliya Chynybayeva, Visa Regional Manager for Central Asia.
