Victoria Abramchenko: Russia is ready to increase agricultural exports to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Victoria Abramchenko held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Investments and Foreign Economic Relations - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev.

The parties discussed the development of cooperation in the field of agriculture between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan, mutual supplies of agricultural products, as well as cooperation in the field of standardization and quarantine through the Rosselkhoznadzor and the Uzbek Committee for Plant Quarantine.

Victoria Abramchenko noted the high potential for further development of mutual trade. She stated that Russia is ready to increase the export of sunflower oil, sugar, confectionery, wheat, as well as assist in the implementation of joint projects.

“Over the past few years, the parties have carried out large-scale work in terms of implementing the provisions of the road map to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture. One of the main areas of cooperation is joint agro-logistic projects for the organization of wholesale deliveries of fruits and vegetables and other food products. In particular, the project of a modern agro-logistic complex in the Jizzakh region of the Republic of Uzbekistan is already at the final stage of construction,” said Victoria Abramchenko.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed the integration of information systems in the field of plant quarantine through the Rosselkhoznadzor and the Uzbek Committee for Plant Quarantine.

In 2021, trade grew by almost 20% and amounted to US$1.1 billion. Exports of Russia in 2021 increased by 17% and amounted to US$797 million. Imports of Uzbek products in 2021 increased by 20% to US$398 million.

Over the seven months of 2022, the volume of mutual trade increased by 35% compared to the same period in 2021 and amounted to US$780 million.

Export - increased by 26% (in value terms) and amounted to US$491 million. Import - increased by 48% (in value terms) and amounted to US$289 million.
