Vadim Abramov to try guide Uzbekistan beyond the last eight
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan’s Team Manager until replacing Mirdjalal Kasimov in April 2010, Vadim Abramov will be looking to be their first coach to guide the Central Asians beyond the last eight after reaching the quarter-final stage at the last two AFC Asian Cups.

It was a difficult start for the former Uzbekistan Olympic team coach and was without a win in his first four matches before finally getting his first victory in October when the Uzbeks defeated fellow AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011™ qualifiers Bahrain 4-2 in Manama.

Prior to joining the national team set up Abramov has coached Tashkent league clubs Traktor and Lokomotiv and has also worked on the staff of Pakhtakor and Neftchi Fergana.

Uzbekistan will begin their campaign in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011™ against hosts Qatar on January 7 before meeting Kuwait and China.
