Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The activities of the Uztekstilprom Association are expanding in accordance with the requirements of the global textile and clothing and knitwear industry. 

The association is among the signatories of the letter on digital marking, along with such partner organizations as the International Clothing Federation (IAF), the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA), the US Fashion Industry Association (USFIA), the Bangladesh Association Manufacturers and Exporters of Clothing (BGMEA), China Textile Chamber of Commerce (CCCT) and many others.

This speaks volumes as the global fashion and sportswear industry is calling for labeling for home textiles, apparel, footwear and related accessories, and supporting the use of more sustainable and cost-effective digital labels for essential labeling information.

But according to industry estimates, cumulative demand now results in annual production of approximately 9.2 million km of label tape, enough to stretch it from Earth to moon and back twelve times.

Digitalization has not bypassed this aspect of the industry. Digital technology solutions such as QR code labels have become available. Switching to digital tags will greatly reduce tag waste and greatly aid decarbonization efforts, removing at least 343,000 tonnes of CO2e from industry supply chains.

With the growing demand for greater traceability, transparency and accountability from all stakeholders in the industry’s global value chain, it is time to act and update outdated, inflexible and complex labeling requirements and provide our consumers with more accessible information through greener e-labels.

The Uztekstilprom Association, represented by all the sewing and knitting enterprises of Uzbekistan, supports this initiative.
