Uzmetkombinat to invest US$134.7m to develop production
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbek Metallurgy Combine (Uzmetkombinat) is planning to implement programme on developing and modernizing production in 2011-2015 with the cost of US$134.7 million.

Gazeta.uz reported that the programme includes nine projects on construction of new capacities and reconstruction of existing ones. The projects will be implemented within the programme on priorities of developing industry in Uzbekistan for 2011-2015.

Largest project, which the company is planning to implement in next five years, will be organization of production of ferroalloys at the base of Dautash field in Kashkadarya region. The project cost is US$65 million.

In 2012, the enterprise will start construction of mine on production of manganous ore and capacity on preliminary ore-dressing at the area, as well as concentrating capacity at the combine for producing ferromanganese, silicomanganese and ferrosilicomanganese with total volume of 12,000 tonnes a year.

Uzmetkombinat also plans to construct capacities on production of rod 300 with annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes a year. The project cost is US$13 million.

The company plans to direct US$24.5 million to modernization of existing capacities. The plant plans to reconstruct heating stove of section rolling shop No. 1, facility of complex processing of steel, etc.

Uzmetkombinat plans to invest US$32 million to modernization of depreciated equipment in 2011-2015. Uzmetkombinat will finance the programme due to its own resources.

The company believes that the programme implementation will increase designed capacity of steel by 100,000 tonnes to 850,000 tonnes and processing of scrap metal by 290,000 tonnes to 670,000 tonnes. It will also decrease expenses to energy by 20%.

Uzmetkombinat is only enterprise in Central Asia on ferrous metallurgy, working on scrap metal. The plant was commissioned in 1956. The company increased production of steel by 6.2% in 2009 to 716,400 tonnes and ferrous metal by 5.7% to 687,100 tonnes.
