“Uzkomnazorat” calls on mobile subscribers to be vigilant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Uzkomnazorat state inspectorate warns that during a coronavirus pandemic, cases of withdrawal of money from the accounts of subscribers of mobile communication operators by criminals are observed.

In particular, subscribers are called from an unknown foreign Wangiri number, and after a call back to this number, a huge amount of money is debited from the subscriber’s account. Fraudsters call the subscriber and immediately disconnect when connected. Some subscribers, as a rule, unconsciously start calling back to a missed number and become victims of intruders.

In addition, according to information received from mobile operators, in order to take appropriate measures to prevent fraud, during the quarantine period, suspicious transactions with plastic cards are monitored using various electronic systems.

In order to avoid such incidents, Uzkomnazorat urges mobile subscribers not to call back to unfamiliar foreign numbers and not to distribute plastic card numbers, passport data and other personal information on social networks.

Wangiri is a Japanese word meaning one of the types of fraud that caused a lot of controversy in Japan in 2002. Attackers fraudulently force the subscriber to call back to paid numbers (premium rate numbers) and write off huge amounts of money from their accounts. A fraudster calls from a paid number and quickly disconnects, and a subscriber who is waiting for an important call from abroad unknowingly calls back to this number and thereby creates the conditions for withdrawing funds from his account.
