Uzkimyosanoat can receive 80m euros from CDM projects
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzkimyosanoat (Uzbek Chemical Industry) state joint stock company can receive 80 million euros from sale of certified emission reductions, gazeta.uz reported.

Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan, national body on Clean Development Mechanism, said that the commercial realization of one of the approved CDM project started and it is connected with utilization of nitrous oxide at three chemical enterprises of Uzbekistan.

Mitsubishi and Uzhimprom signed a memorandum of understanding on the realization of these three projects in 2006 at Navoiazot, Maxam-Chirchiq and Ferghanaazot.

The Japanese firm will supply technologies and know-how for utilization of green house gases (nitrous oxide), which will allow to improve energy efficiency of these enterprises.

The Japanese firm will attract funds to finance the projects and it will get certified emission reductions. The project will cut 1.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent per year. Investment expenses of Japanese firm are US$6 million. The purchase period of certified emission reductions is from 2009 to 2019. The Uzbek side will receive 80% of income from sale of certified emission reductions and Mitsubishi - 20%.

In March 2009 Executive Board on CDM under UN FCCC registered the CDM project and Japanese company started to realize it. The expected annual CER sales return is about 10 million euros.
