“UzHydroPower” — Strategic Leader in Uzbekistan’s Hydropower Engineering

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  The joint venture UzHydroPower, established with the participation of the Chinese company Zhejiang Jinlun Electromechanic Co., Ltd., has become a key player in Uzbekistan’s hydropower sector, strengthening the country’s industrial potential and enhancing its economic independence.

The enterprise specializes in the production of modern hydro units, turbines, generators, pumping systems, and metal structures for reservoirs with capacities ranging from 1 kW to 40 MW. In this field, UzHydroPower ranks among the few factories not only in Central Asia but globally.

On August 21, UzHydroenergo JSC hosted a press tour for national and regional media representatives, providing an inside look at the plant’s facilities and key projects.

Journalists had the opportunity to observe the production of hydro units, turbines, generators, and pumping equipment, as well as learn about the company’s plans to expand exports and localize production.

Localization and Competitive Advantages

At least 72% of components used in the production of hydro units under the national brand “Made in Uzbekistan” are locally sourced. This approach allows the company to:

expand the output of import-substituting products;

reduce dependence on imports;

create new jobs.

During the press tour, the competitiveness of the products was emphasized: they are 12% cheaper than Chinese equivalents and 27% cheaper than Russian counterparts. From 2026, the company plans to enter neighboring markets.

Production Facilities

The plant operates five workshops equipped with over 80 modern machines. Journalists visited areas where 255 specialists currently work, with plans to increase the workforce to 350. The facility offers modern dormitories, a cafeteria, sports grounds, and recreation areas.

Special attention is given to staff training, with young engineers undergoing internships in China and abroad.

Contribution to Uzbekistan’s Hydropower

In recent years, Uzbekistan has added 430 MW of new capacity, bringing total hydropower output to 2.3 GW.

UzHydroPower’s equipment is already installed at 10 small hydropower plants in Karakalpakstan and Surkhandarya region.

Currently, the company manufactures equipment for major projects:

Nizhne-Chatkal HPP (Chatkal River, 90 MW)

Naryn Cascade HPPs (Naryn River, 228 MW)

UzHydroPower aims to strengthen Uzbekistan’s position as a global leader in hydro unit production, making a significant contribution to the development of the country’s energy infrastructure.
