UzCE and ADB discuss prospects for modernizing Uzbekistan’s financial sector
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Uzbek Republican Currency Exchange (UzCE) held a meeting with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which arrived as part of a mission to assess the implementation of the Financial Sector Reform Program. This initiative aims to support the structural transformations being carried out under ADB’s credit policy.
The delegation was led by the ADB mission chief, Ms. Benita Ainabe, a senior financial sector specialist. The main goal of the visit was to receive expert feedback on the current state and development prospects of the capital market, as well as to identify institutional and regulatory barriers hindering its further growth.
During the meeting, Rashid Usmanov, General Director of UzCE, provided the ADB representatives with a detailed overview of the exchange’s activities, emphasizing its strategic significance in the development of the national financial infrastructure. Special attention was given to presenting the medium-term development strategy of UzCE, which outlines key priorities aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and accessibility of exchange trading.
The parties discussed the current issues in market infrastructure development, the progress of ongoing reforms, and initiatives aimed at improving the regulatory framework. ADB representatives expressed interest in UzCE’s approach to creating conditions that foster active participation from investors, including foreign ones, in the national financial market.
The dialogue also addressed the status of UzCE’s request to ADB for technical assistance in implementing key infrastructure projects for the exchange.
At the conclusion of the meeting, UzCE expressed gratitude to the ADB delegation for their constructive interaction and reaffirmed its interest in further developing a partnership aimed at building a sustainable, transparent, and competitive capital market ecosystem in Uzbekistan.
