Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the Tax Committee of Uzbekistan, led by Chairman Sherzod Qudbiyev, is on a working visit to the United States.
During the visit, a meeting was held in Washington with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), headed by Deputy Director of the Fiscal Affairs Department, Caterina Bayer.
Foreign experts highly praised the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, particularly highlighting the importance of steps taken to improve tax administration and enhance the transparency of the tax system.
The leadership of the Tax Committee expressed gratitude to the IMF for the recently published report, which includes recommendations following the visit to Uzbekistan. It was noted that the support from IMF experts plays a key role in implementing tax reforms and contributes to the creation of a more effective taxation system.
The close cooperation and trust are evidenced by the fact that Uzbekistan is among five countries to which the IMF continuously provides foreign consultants. This year, the consultant is Georgiy Kandelaqi.
During the dialogue, IMF specialists drew attention to several key aspects that facilitate the improvement of tax administration and reduce the share of the shadow economy. In particular, they emphasized the need to strengthen tax control, especially concerning VAT refunds.
Additionally, it was noted that in some countries, the taxable base is determined based on the market value of goods and services, which increases the fairness of taxation.
Experts also pointed out that one way to reduce the informal sector of the economy is to encourage the transition from cash payments to cashless transactions, which helps to reduce tax violations and increase tax revenues.
At the end of the meeting, the delegation from the Tax Committee once again expressed gratitude for the warm welcome.
The working visit to the United States is ongoing, with meetings scheduled with representatives of other international financial and economic institutions.
