The bill was prepared in accordance with the Uzbekistan President’s decree, "Measures to improve conditions of serving in the Uzbekistan Armed Forces," passed in November 2008, the Senate’s spokesperson said.

The decree requires calling up to the fixed-term military service only once a year - in February-March.

Senators have agreed that the previous of calling up to the military service twice a year (in spring and autumn) was mainly the relic of the old conscription system, when the period of service was 24 months and more.
