Uzbekistan’s Prosecutor General’s Office to oversee solar panel installation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Prosecutor General’s Office has been assigned to monitor the installation of solar panels and water heaters, according to a presidential decree issued on 7 February.
Deputy Prosecutor General Shokhrukh Aminov will oversee the implementation of the plan for deploying small-scale renewable energy systems and ensure strict compliance with regulations during installation.
Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, in collaboration with the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, regional administrations, and Tashkent authorities, must submit a detailed program to the Cabinet of Ministers within a month. This program will outline the solar panel and water heater installation plan for 2025, broken down by regions and cities.
Additionally, state agencies will develop a micro-hydropower plant construction program for 2025–2026.
To increase the share of renewables in electricity generation, Uzbekistan plans to launch 4.5 GW of solar and wind power plants (up from the initially planned 3.5 GW), install 785 MW of solar panels, and build 225 MW of hydropower plants (originally planned for 160 MW).
At a January meeting on the "Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy" program, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered the installation of solar panels on 100,000 facilities and 150,000 households, with a total capacity of 600 MW. The Prosecutor General’s Office has been tasked with ensuring compliance with this directive.
In late January, Minister Jurabek Mirzamahmudov announced plans to equip at least half of the rooftops of residential and commercial buildings with solar panels and water heaters.
