Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A Business Breakfast was organized by the Europe-Uzbekistan Association for Economic Cooperation (EUROUZ) in partnership with CCI France Ouzbékistan (CCIFO) to discuss Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The keynote speaker, Mr. Aziz Urunov, Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan on WTO issues and Chief Negotiator, provided insights & the latest news into the country’s progress. The event was attended by members of EUROUZ and CCIFO, high-level government representatives, and diplomats.
The Secretary General of EUROUZ, Mr. Oybek Shaykhov, and the Chairwoman of CCIFO, Ms. Joanna Golas, welcomed over 45 members & distinguished guests who have gathered at the event and delivered opening remarks.
Mr. Urunov then presented an overview of Uzbekistan’s accession process to the WTO, emphasizing its strategic importance for the country’s economic development and Uzbekistan’s commitment to joining the ranks of WTO members as soon as possible.
During his presentation, Mr. Urunov discussed the specific progress made since 2023, including ongoing bilateral and multilateral negotiations and the harmonization of national legislation. He highlighted recent reforms aimed at abolishing exclusive rights, creating equal conditions for all market participants, regulating export and import activities, and strengthening intellectual property protections.
Mr. Urunov also noted that bilateral negotiations with 17 countries have been successfully concluded to date. He further outlined key objectives for 2025, including completing negotiations with an additional 16 countries and achieving full legislative alignment with WTO agreements.
The event concluded with a networking breakfast, allowing attendees to engage in meaningful discussions, exchange insights, and strengthen professional relationships in an informal setting.
This session fostered a collaborative atmosphere, encouraging further dialogue on Uzbekistan’s WTO accession and related topics among government officials, EUROUZ and CCIFO members, and other esteemed guests.
