Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the first half of 2024, Uzbekistan’s national debt reached US$37 billion. This announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kuchkarov during a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on 5 September.
According to Kuchkarov, the national debt represents 33.2% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
He noted that US$30.9 billion of the total national debt is external, while US$6.1 billion is internal.
Kuchkarov also emphasized that, according to the International Monetary Fund’s report, Uzbekistan’s level of national debt is at a moderate level.
