Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy holds meeting with electric vehicle charging station operators

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Umid Mamadaminov, held a working meeting with representatives of companies operating electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Tashkent, according to the ministry’s press service.

The discussion involved representatives from EBB Charging, GreenTE, Megawatt Energy, Mustang Energy, Q.Watt, Spectre Energy, TezTok, Tok Bor, and Voltauto, along with officials from the Prosecutor General’s Office, UzEnergoInspection, the Tashkent city administration, and "Regional Electric Networks."

The main issue addressed during the meeting was the disconnection of charging stations in the capital from the power grid. Operators and relevant officials provided clarifications regarding the problems encountered.

The Ministry of Energy reiterated that it had not issued any directives to suspend the operations of EV charging stations and emphasized its support for the development of this infrastructure.

At the same time, business representatives were reminded of the importance of adhering strictly to current legal requirements. It was agreed to establish regular meetings between business operators and government bodies to enhance cooperation.

Following the exchange of views, several agreements were reached, although specific details have not yet been disclosed.

It is worth noting that reports surfaced in mid-December 2024 regarding the forced disconnection of several charging stations across Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Energy then stated that it had imposed no restrictions on their operations and supported the expansion of EV infrastructure in the country.

Nuriddin Sultanov, a member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, submitted an official inquiry to the Ministry of Energy and the Cadastre Agency, requesting clarification on the matter.

On 2 January 2025, the Ministry acknowledged that inspections had indeed taken place in December, resulting in the temporary disconnection of certain charging stations. However, thanks to the ministry’s intervention, their operations were promptly restored.
