Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture Holds Key Meetings at the UNFSS+4 Summit

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4) is taking place, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, held a series of important negotiations.

In particular, during talks with Said bin Hamoud bin Ahmad al-Hosni, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman, the sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the agricultural sector and expand export-import operations.

The Uzbek side expressed readiness to export cherries, dried fruits, and vegetables to the Omani market, to which the Omani side showed strong interest. At the same time, the parties agreed to develop practical mechanisms for importing dates and seafood into Uzbekistan.

It was noted that cooperation in the phytosanitary sphere has been progressing positively, while both sides emphasized the importance of further strengthening interaction in this area. Oman also expressed interest in studying Uzbekistan’s experience in agricultural subsidy systems.

Additionally, Minister Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov spoke at the National Convenors Meeting within the framework of UNFSS+4. In his address, he outlined the reforms underway in Uzbekistan to transform food systems, advance digitalization, promote sustainable development of the agro-industrial sector, and improve agricultural education and innovation.
